In my book the 5-S Habits, Habit 5 is Get More Sex. The reason why is because of the many health benefits sex has on the body. Sex when performed in a monogamous relationship is anti-aging, immune-boosting, hormone-balancing, mood-enhancing, and stress-reducing. Oh My!
Regular sex has many physiological and psychological benefits.
The lifestyle choices you make to reduce your heart attack risk are also good for your sex life. Heart healthy habits can help prevent erectile dysfunction in men and sexual dysfunction in women: stop smoking, exercise regularly, stress reduction, etc.
Sex is a stress reliever: The endorphins released during sexual intercourse and orgasms are natural mood-boosters and stress relievers. Regular sex can also boost your self-esteem and increase intimacy between partners. For those in a monogamous relationship, studies have found that semen does contain several mood-altering hormones that can reduce depression and elevate the mood.
Sex gives you a glow: The glow of good sex is real. Women who have more sex have higher levels of estrogen, which is essential to enjoying healthier, smoother skin. This increase in estrogen also helps to protect us from heart disease, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s disease. It also promotes the production of collagen, which keeps the skin supple and gives you a healthy glow. Hint: You don’t need a partner for this.
Sex counts as Exercise: “Sex is a really great form of exercise.” It won’t replace the treadmill, but it counts for something. Sex uses about 5 calories per minute. It helps to bump your heart rate up, and uses many muscles. You may even need to clear your schedule and make time for it on a regular basis.
Like with exercise, consistency is key!!
